The past twelve or so months have been… uncertain to say the least. The shop has bounced between being open and closed a few times and is now back to being closed for at least four weeks. Amid all the uncertainty, both the prompt writing group and the accountability have remained steady. They have grounded me and kept me focused.
Like most things, the writer’s groups had to change in order to keep going. Both groups transitioned to online platforms rather than the in person meetings they had been previously. I very much miss meeting in person, but the beauty of being online is that now the groups are more accessible than ever.
Both the groups meet via Zoom, so if you don’t live near the shop but having been wanting to join, now is your chance! Here’s a look at what the groups are all about.
The prompt group is all about actually sitting and writing. We use prompts to kick start our writing. This group is great for getting into a writing groove, sparking story ideas to run with later, and letting your creativity run wild. This group meets every week for six weeks. At each meeting, there are a minimum of two twenty minute prompt based writing sessions followed by an opportunity to share.
The next prompt group starts in May. We meet on Thursday evenings, but if the day/time is the only thing holding you back just let me know.
The accountability group is about setting and achieving writing goals. It’s great for getting into a more regular writing habit, finishing (or making significant progress on) bigger projects, and getting over writing hurdles. This group meets every other week for fifteen weeks. At each meeting, we set goals for the next two weeks, and discuss any issues we are having with our projects. We meet on Tuesday evenings.
If you are interested in joining either (or both) of these groups, or if you’d just like more information, give me a shout.
